FAQ

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and their mental health and well-being.  Psychotherapy can provide a safe space in which you can explore and process your feelings and thoughts without judgement and with support. It could help to uncover problematic emotional and behavioural patterns and to find new ways of navigating them.

What is Sex Therapy?

Sex Therapy is talk therapy focused on an individual’s or couple’s difficulty with issues around sex or sexuality. These issues include but are not limited to: sexual dissatisfaction, problematic masturbation practices, an unwanted change in sexual interest, or concerns about sexual functioning (pain during sex, erectile dysfunction, premature/delayed ejaculation, vulvodynia, etc.).

What can I expect from my first session?

During the initial appointment we will take some time going over the confidentiality agreement, getting to one another, and identifying your goals for therapy. We will collaborate on a plan to move forward and determine how frequently you will attend therapy (most clients attend bi-weekly). This will allow you to get a sense of how I will work with you and to determine if my approach feels right.

Couples: I am committed to providing a safe space in which I endeavor to make each partner feel understood and supported to express their concerns, feelings and hopes for our work together.

Do I need a referral from my family doctor or physician for your services?

No. You don’t need a referral to book a consultation or a session.  I accept self-referrals only.

Are your services covered by OHIP or my Extended Health Benefits?

Psychotherapy and social work are not covered under OHIP. However, the majority of extended health benefits cover psychotherapy services. It is important to connect with your insurance provider before beginning therapy. Please confirm if your coverage is for a “Registered Social Worker” and what amount is covered during your initial consultation or first session.

Do you do direct billing to my insurance provider?

No. I unfortunately do not provide direct billing. However, I do provide invoices and receipts for submission to your insurance provider.

Are psychotherapy sessions tax deductible?

Yes. Revenue Canada recognizes psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Social Worker as an income tax deductible medical expense.  I provide invoices and receipts for submission for income tax purposes.

How do I pay?

I accept payment for services by way of e-transfers.  Payment is due before or directly after each session.  A receipt for all payments will be issued. E-transfer can be sent to natasha.bachoo@gmail.com.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you are unable to make an appointment, please let me know 48 hours prior to your scheduled time via email. The full fee will be charged for late cancellations or missed appointments.

Where can I get help immediately?

If you are currently experiencing an emergency or in need of more immediate support, there are various options for support:

  • Call 911
  • Call the Gerstein Crisis Centre 416-929-5200
  • Access a walk-in counselling service, such as at Woodgreen Community Services or Family Service Toronto

Is psychotherapy confidential?

I respect each person’s confidentiality and what is shared in sessions remains private within the legal guidelines. As a Registered Social Worker, there are limits to confidentiality and I adhere to the guidelines set out by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
